- วางแผนการทดสอบซอฟต์แวร์ : หลังจากที่ซอฟต์แวร์ได้ถูกพัฒนาขึ้น Software Tester จะต้องวางแผนการทดสอบเพื่อให้ครอบคลุมทุกฟังก์ชันของซอฟต์แวร์นั้น ๆ โดยมีการกำหนดวัตถุประสงค์ในการทดสอบที่ชัดเจน เพื่อให้ได้ผลลัพธ์ที่ละเอียดมากที่สุด
- จำลองสถานการณ์ในการทดสอบ : เมื่อวางแผนการทดสอบเรียบร้อยแล้ว Software Tester จะเป็นผู้จำลองสถานการณ์ในการใช้งานที่หลากหลาย เหมือนการนำซอฟต์แวร์นั้น ๆ ไปใช้งานจริง
- ดำเนินการทดสอบซอฟต์แวร์ : Software Tester จะทำหน้าที่ดำเนินการทดสอบตามแผนและสถานการณ์ที่วางไว้ และบันทึกผลลัพธ์ที่ได้ในทุกขั้นตอน
- รายงานผลการทดสอบ : หลังจากทดสอบซอฟต์แวร์แล้ว Software Tester จะทำการสรุปข้อผิดพลาดที่พบ และนำข้อผิดพลาดนั้นมาวิเคราะห์ เพื่อเสนอแนะแนวทางในการแก้ไข
- ทำงานร่วมกับทีมพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์ หรือฝ่ายอื่น ๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้อง : เมื่อได้ผลลัพธ์การทดสอบ ก็ถึงเวลาที่ Software Tester จะทำงานร่วมกับทีมพัฒนาซอฟต์แวร์ หรือทีม Developer เพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาที่พบ ซึ่งจะช่วยให้ซอฟต์แวร์ทำงานได้อย่างสมบูรณ์แบบ และเกิดปัญหาในการใช้งานน้อยที่สุดเท่าที่จะทำได้
