Presale Engineer (Software MES)

Job Description

The Presales Engineer for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) software plays a crucial role in driving sales of MES solutions by providing technical expertise and support during the sales process. This position involves working closely with customers to understand their manufacturing processes, offering tailored solutions, conducting product demonstrations, and collaborating with the sales team to design proposals that address the customer’s specific needs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Consultation:

• Engage with prospects and customers to understand their manufacturing processes, pain points, and business objectives.

• Offer technical guidance on how MES software can optimize manufacturing operations, improve efficiency, and enable real-time visibility.

• Assist in mapping the customer ’s requirements to MES software capabilities and features.

2. Product Demonstrations & Presentations:

• Deliver compelling technical presentations and demonstrations of MES software to potential customers, highlighting key features, benefits, and ROI.

• Customize software demos based on the customer ‘s specific industry, challenges, and business goals to effectively communicate the value proposition.

• Address customer questions and technical objections during the sales process.

3. Solution Design & Proposal Support:

• Collaborate with the sales team to design MES solutions that meet customer requirements, including integration with existing systems (ERP, PLCs, SCADA, etc.).

• Assist in preparing technical documentation, proposal content, and detailed system designs for customers.

• Support the creation of accurate cost estimates and timelines for MES software implementation.

4. Customer Education & Support:

• Provide technical training and education to customers on how MES software can improve their operations.

• Create and deliver training materials or resources to help customers understand the functionality and usage of the software.

• Assist customers in evaluating how the MES solution will integrate into their existing systems and workflows.

5. Sales Support:

• Act as the technical lead during the sales cycle, supporting the sales team in closing deals by providing in-depth technical expertise.

• Participate in meetings with customers to address technical requirements and provide insights into how MES solutions can be deployed to solve specific problems.

• Collaborate with internal teams (product, engineering, implementation) to ensure alignment to proposed solutions.

6. Proof of Concept (POC) & Pilot Programs:

• Lead or support proof-of-concept (POC) projects or pilot programs to demonstrate the effectiveness of MES software in real-world applications.

• Assist in setting up trial installations or simulations to showcase the software ‘s capabilities and potential for meeting the customer ‘s needs.

7. Market Research & Product Knowledge:

• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to MES software and manufacturing technologies.

• Monitor competitor offerings and provide insights into internal teams to ensure the company remains competitive in the market.

• Share customer feedback and market insights with the product development team to influence product roadmaps and feature enhancements.

8. Collaboration & Feedback Loop:

• Work closely with customer success, product management, and engineering teams to ensure smooth transition from sales to implementation and customer satisfaction.

• Provide feedback on product performance, customer needs, and market trends to help refine product offerings.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Bachelor ‘s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.

• Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and familiarity with manufacturing processes and workflows.

• Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, including integration with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), and Industrial Control Systems (PLC).

• Prior experience in a presale, solution engineering, or technical sales role, preferably within the MES or industrial software space.

• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and customer success.

• Technical knowledge of software integration, database management, and cloud-based systems is a plus.

• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISA-95, GMP, FDA requirements) is a plus.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Experience in specific MES software platforms (e.g., Siemens OpsCenter, Rockwell FactoryTalk, SAP Manufacturing, etc.).

• Knowledge of data analytics, Industry 4.0, IoT, and automation technologies in manufacturing.

• Experience in a manufacturing environment or engineering background, particularly in industries like automotive, food & beverage, or pharmaceuticals.
