Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and managing the cost data within the organization to help guide financial planning and decision-making. This role involves tracking costs, preparing reports, analyzing variances, and making recommendations for cost efficiency improvements. The position is critical in ensuring accurate financial records and supporting the management in budgeting, forecasting, and inventory control.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Analysis and Reporting
- Analyze manufacturing costs, labor, material, and overhead to determine the actual cost of production.
- Prepare detailed cost reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management review.
- Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies, and identify areas for cost reduction
- Conduct variance analysis by comparing budgeted costs to actual costs and report findings.
- Identify causes of variances and suggest corrective actions to management.
- Collaborate with production and operations teams to resolve any discrepancies in cost variances.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory levels and assess the financial impact of stock control.
- Perform regular inventory audits and ensure the accuracy of inventory valuation.
- Recommend inventory adjustments to minimize obsolescence and improve inventory turnover.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Analyze financial information to project future costs and assess profitability.
- Monitor budget adherence and recommend adjustments as needed.
Financial Control and Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date cost accounting records.
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, standards, and company policies.
- Support the preparation of financial statements and external audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with inventory management, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics) and MS Excel
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial data.
- Strong communication skills to present financial findings to non-financial team members.
