1. Position key objectives
The Composites Shop Manager is responsible for leading a team to manufacture composite products by processing raw materials into cured parts.
The Composite Shop Manager will establish a system to ensure that his/her team can process the parts in a minimum amount of time and controls and maintains all equipment, such as Machines (Routers, Presses, Ovens, etc.), Cutting programs, Jigs and Fixtures and Tooling (Molds).
He/she will also maintain a staffing plan for their area, indicate training needs and perform trainings to his/her team as well as keep his/her team motivated and inform HR and the General Manager about the condition of his/her team.
2. Detailed job related duties
The Composites Shop Manager shall do the following to accomplish the above:
2.1 Control the creation and maintenance of CNC programs, jigs and tooling
2.2 Maintains inventory of jigs and tooling in a cost-effective way
2.3 Setup and manage a nesting department
2.4 Setup and manage a tool maintenance/cleaning department
2.5 Recommend and implement improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, and working conditions
2.6 Maintain effective interface with the General Manager and Engineering and Maintenance to optimize production and process improvement activities
2.7 Recommend and implement improvement projects to the General Manager to reduce wastes, cycle times and improve efficiency as well as improvement projects such as 5S
2.7.1 In relation to Raw Materials and Scrap
2.7.2 In relation to Consumables and Waste thereof
2.7.3 In relation to Hours Recording and use of Overtime
2.7.4 Ensure/Manage Work Orders Flow and Timely Closing with review
2.8 Establish and implement work instructions to control the Cutting/Laminating/Curing related processes, and also train his/her subordinates to the applicable work instructions and procedures
2.9 Recruits and maintains qualified personnel
2.10 Directs, monitors and appraises the performance of his/her team
2.11 Identifies (outside) training needs of subordinates
2.12 Keeps GM and HR informed about subordinates’ attitudes/performance and seeks mutual agreement between the management and the employees
2.13 Ensures strict adherence to all procedures and instructions that apply to all aspects of the Composites Shop, including safety, quality and the environment
2.14 Maintains the machines at the best possible condition in coordination with machine operators and maintenance team
2.15 Assumes other activities and responsibilities as needed
2.16 Anything the General Manager deems necessary
The Composites Shop Manager shall have the following qualifications:
1.1 Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or related field, or equivalent level of experience
1.2 At least 5 years’ experience in a management position with composites fabrication process(es)
1.3 Experience managing a team of 80+ people
1.4 Able to motivate and communicate with people from diverse backgrounds
1.5 Able to work collaborative with individuals in the organization in a team environment
1.6 Good understanding of production techniques, used in the fabrication of metallic and/or composite products
1.7 Good understanding of quality systems such as ISO, TS or AS
1.8 Good command of the English language, both written and spoken
