Key Responsibilities:
The Creative Art Teacher Assistant assumes collective responsibility alongside all members of the Early Years team for the effective operation of the Junior School, particularly Early Years. In particular, the Creative Art Teacher Assistant will:
- Report directly to the Assistant Principal (Early Years).
- Be line managed by the Early Years Curriculum Lead.
- Take the lead in planning and delivering engaging art projects across EY1 and EY2 classes, ensuring creative opportunities are accessible to all children.
- Plan, prepare, and set up art provocations that inspire curiosity, exploration, and creative expression.
- Manage and resource all art materials for the Early Years, ensuring they are well-stocked, organised, and accessible.
- Work closely with teachers to integrate and enhance creative experiences within the curriculum, supporting children’s learning through artistic exploration.
- Observe and document children’s creative processes, contributing to digital documentation and floorbooks.
- Collaborate with other professionals, including teachers and external artists, to enrich the creative learning environment.
- Attend staff meetings, training, and development sessions as required.
Tasks:
The Creative Art Teacher Assistant’s role is focused on leading and supporting artistic experiences across Early Years. The Creative Art Teacher Assistant will:
- Support the school’s Philosophy and Objectives, particularly regarding creativity and the arts.
- Lead small-group and whole-class art experiences that encourage self-expression and creative confidence.
- Plan, organise, and maintain engaging art provocations using a variety of media, such as paint, clay, textiles, natural materials, and digital tools.
- Source, order, and manage art resources, ensuring sustainable and high-quality materials are available for use, where possible locally sourced
- Observe and interact with children during Active Learning, scaffolding their creative exploration and documenting their progress.
- Assist in assessing students’ creative development and suggest provision linked to children’s artistic interests.
- Work with teachers to integrate art into other areas of learning, such as storytelling, science, and outdoor play.
- Set up and maintain an inspiring and well-organised art space within designated creative areas in classrooms
- Lead hands on creative workshops for parents throughout the year.
- Enhance the EY team's creativity, skills, and knowledge in diverse materials and processes to better support young children's learning and development.
- Participate in training and development activities related to creativity, Reggio-inspired approaches, and early childhood education.
- Undertake lunchtime and after-school duties in accordance with the duty roster.
- Follow Early Years' positive behaviour management strategies while fostering a creative and risk-taking mindset.
- Provide individual support for students, particularly in developing their confidence in creative expression.
- Plan and lead art focused YouTime sessions for EY students, providing enriching creative experiences beyond the classroom curriculum.
Professional Expectations:
The Creative Art Teacher Assistant should have the following qualities:
- Possess at least a bachelor’s degree in Art, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.
- Experience working in an Early Years setting or with children aged 3-5 years in a creative or artistic role.
- A strong understanding of art-based learning approaches in the Early Years, including Reggio-inspired practices.
- Passion for children learning through artistic exploration and sensory play.
- Ability to recognise learning opportunities in children's artistic play and have the skills to extend and document these experiences.
- Strong organisation skills to manage art materials, set up creative provocations, and maintain engaging learning spaces.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with teachers, children, and families.
- Professional approach, setting high standards for creativity, sustainability, and aesthetics in learning environments.
- Commitment to health and safety, ensuring appropriate use and care of materials.
- A willingness to actively improve their practice and participate in professional development.
- Dedication to fostering a high-quality, creative, and engaging learning environment for all children.
