Artist in Residence
Harrow International School BangkokThis residency is ideally suited to a visual arts graduate who may be considering a future career in education, or as a practising artist. The successful candidate will be provided with all necessary tools to continue their own professional practice in a studio setting under the proviso that they draw on their knowledge of Art & Design to enrich the visual arts curriculum.
Responsibilities include providing support to teachers in the Art Department whilst also providing guidance to students, particularly at IGCSE and A Level, by allowing them to observe professional practice.
The successful candidate will have full access to the department’s studios as well as a range of materials and resources including kilns, dark room, digital image editing software and printing press. They will also receive a timetable which includes protected time to continue their own artistic practice.
The Artist in Residence will be a committed and professional member of the Art Department, aligning their own passion for Art & Design with the vision to enhance the excellent reputation of the visual arts throughout the Upper School.
Duration: August 2024 – December 2024
The successful candidate will be appointed on a service agreement
Service fee - Payment would be provided if our successful candidate was to run stand-alone workshops within the Harrow community for parents and other interested parties. *At the end of their tenure, the Artist in Residence will be asked to donate one piece of work for permanent display to form part of their legacy with the school
Duties & Responsibilities
• To continue as a practising artist whilst aiming to inspire students by giving them access to artwork and letting them observe good practice in a studio setting
• To mentor senior artists and lead group critiques helping to promote discussion and develop critical awareness of student artwork
• To deliver an enrichment activity for inspiring artists as part of our Upper School Activities programme
Other Duties
• Follow all agreed School Policy and procedures as shared and in the Staff Handbook including all safeguarding expectations
• Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Department, Head of Faculty or members of the Senior Leadership Team
Essential
• University degree in a visual arts-related field
• Relevant knowledge, skills and practice
• A passion for working with young people
• Willingness to lead an Art and Design related activity
• Enthusiastic, creative and innovative
Desirable
• Knowledge and experience of ceramics, including use of kilns, glazing and raku - and/or Knowledge and skills of two of the following disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, digital image editing, photography or film
• Experience of a high achieving Art and Design department in a boarding school setting
