Senior (lead) R&D Engineer
Researches and evaluates technical issues related to fabrication of innovative Aircraft interior products. Review new customer data packages under guidance of program management and functional team managers/leaders. Organize physical trials of fabrication methods and techniques new or unique to Aeroworks. Evaluate performance characteristics and helps establish production targets for new and existing products. Works on complex projects from receiving customer data into product manufacturing development to manage technical issues that interrelate in the areas of performance, construction, and cost.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluate and implement fabrication methods and processes that support innovative designs.
- Lead new products through production from first article (FAI) to mass production.
- Assess and mitigate new, unique, and difficult features related to component fabrication like tools and Jigs.
- Lead engineering project teams for performance, process, or innovation related activities using process knowledge, performance knowledge, and other analysis to recommend process strategies.
- Strong project management skills to keep the team on target.
- Seek and evaluate external concepts to bring outside technology to Aeroworks processes.
- Work within company systems for documentation, communication, and work routing.
- Write reports and present project findings, status, and timelines in project reviews.
- Organize and participate in design reviews throughout each phase of the new product introduction process. Ensure that all necessary follow up actions are taken.
- To maintain the engineering quality and integrity of the work produced within their work package
- Provide cost analysis of construction or performance features to determine production viability.
- Investigate key process parameters and their relationship to product performance and production efficiency.
- Able to control and execute multiple projects simultaneously
- To check engineering packages
- Follow and contribute to the development of the best practice guidelines.
- Generate and/or revise specifications.
- Pro-actively interface with customers and management on issues related to process and design.
- Act as a strong technical liaison with external suppliers, internal, and external testing labs.
- Maintain awareness of other R&D projects and contribute as necessary.
Other responsibilities may include:
- Plan, procure, test, and evaluate test items to test performance features.
- Generate technical reports detailing performance analysis and test results obtained.
- Anything management deems necessary.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
- Knowledge and experience utilizing engineering fundamentals and testing methods.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with a variety of fiber reinforced thermoset matrix composite materials manufacturing processes, including hand layup, compression molding, and/or vacuum bagging.
- Experience with machining, assembly, finishing, bonding, of composite materials.
- Strong understanding of the mechanical properties of composite materials.
- Experience and understanding of mechanical test methods, including ASTM standard tension, compression, and flexural tests.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100
- Ability to work with Customers to solve technical problems.
- Ability to lead technical meetings and report project status.
- Experience with Solid Works, or equivalent CAD program.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, required.
- Experience in project management.

PREFERRED TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Experience with design, analysis, and manufacturing of metal and thermoplastic materials.
- Experience with casting, forging, welding, metal finishing, and coatings.
- Experience with ERP system(s), preferably Exact Globe.
- Understanding and interest in Aerospace.
- Previous experience in Aviation industry.
